Influenced by jazz and progressive rock, England's Wishbone Ash was a popular hard rock act in the early and mid 70's. After much discussion, the name was built from the most preferred words from two separate lists, and they put out a self-titled record in 1970. Rather than continuing in a progressive direction, however, the band's development on albums like "Pilgrimage" and "Argus" tended towards its folk roots, but never lost the hard rock edge. Although departing members and changes in taste slowed the band's momentum in the 80's, they kept recording and playing live all through the 90's.
