William S. Burroughs
Born in St. Louis, USA on February 5, 1914, William S. Burroughs lived the rock'n'roll lifestyle before it was even invented. The first of the post-war junkies, he affiliated himself with the younger beat generation writers and published his first book, "Junkie", in 1953. He became a star of the underground and later on had numerous appearances on the screen ("Drugstar Cowboy") as well recording spoken-word records backed by musicians such as Sonic Youth or John Cale. Many artists also used samples of his voice. Burroughs died in 1997.
