The Residents
The reggae/ska outfit the Skatalites formed in Jamaica back in 1963. Consisting of accomplished musicians who had been active on the country’s hotel circuit, the outfit swiftly secured a residency. Touring without ever stopping, The Skatalites also appeared on uncounted records working with acts such as Prince Buster or Duke. Their recordings, among them “Ska Authentic” (1967), “African Roots” (1978) and “The Skatalites With Sly & Robby & The Taxi Gang” are references for most ska musicians, and there is a never-ending stream of compilations making their material available to everyone.
