A friendship with Limp Bizkit helped Staind's career, which has led them to the top of the nu-metal heap. Staind use the usual barrage of evil clown imagery and misspelled words to stake their claim in the alt metal milieu. Staind's beginnings were at a Christmas party in 1993, where Aaron Lewis met guitarist Mike Mushok. Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst put Staind on the map after he was offended by the cover art on their debut CD. Staind's "Break the Cycle" was one of "Hit Parader"'s Top 50 Metal Albums of All Time.
