Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes
Always somewhat in the shadows of New Jersey fellow Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny (born John Lyon on December 4th, 1948) started his band the Asbury Jukes with guitarist Steve van Zandt, who later left to perform with Springsteen. The latter contributed songs to Johnny's records with van Zandt producing them. 1978's "Hearts of Stone" is said to be his best work although he did many albums in true heartland rock fashion. On 2000's "Messin' With the Blues" Lyon did just that, never straying too far from his horn driven bar rock roots.
