Otis Spann
Otis Spann is a Chicago blues piano player who started out playing piano in Muddy Waters' band in the 1950's and 1960's, a time now considered the golden age of Chicago blues. In between recording for Waters' classic Chess sessions and playing live, Spann managed to fit in numerous solo and sideman recording appearances. In 1960 he recorded "Otis Spann is the Blues" with Robert Lockwood and in 1968 Spann laid down the unforgettable "Raw Blues". It took until 1969 for Spann to head out on his own, but tragically he died of cancer a year later.
