Max Romeo was one of the premier singers of the early-1970s roots reggae explosion in Jamaica. He was one of producer Lee Perry's favorite singers, alongside Bob Marley, the Wailers, the Congos and Junior Delgado. Jamaican PM Michael Manley invited Romeo to his offices to talk after hearing the scathing "One Step Forward." Romeo enjoyed early chart success with tunes like "Play With Your Pussy" and "Wet Dream" before a pronounced image change. Despite the international success of his "War In A Babylon" album, Romeo says he was paid a measly $2,500 for his work.
