Linton Kwesi Johnson

Born in Jamaica and raised in the Brixton section of London, Linton Kwesi Johnson was England's leading figure in reggae music. He was a poet and a journalist before he started performing and recording with a band. His music was a mixture of a slangy, streetwise performance with political accounts concerning the Afro-British population. After releasing the excellent "Bass Culture" in 1980, Kwesi took time off from music to concentrate on his political activities, returning in 1984 with "Making History". Latest release: "Reggae Greats" (2004).
