Godfather Of Soul Back For More

concert album

(NEW YORK) - An historic James Brown concert will get its first-time album release this summer. |

Say It Live And Loud, due Aug. 11 from Polydor/Chronicles, marks a 78-minute performance recorded Aug. 26, 1968, in Dallas. The show followed a volatile period in American history-the escalation of the Vietnam War, the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy, and inner-city riots.

Brown was at his peak then as an influential black entertainer and civil-rights proponent, traveling to Africa, dining at the White House with President Johnson, and performing for troops in Vietnam. At the time of the Dallas concert, the soul star had just released his powerful anthem "Say It Loud-I'm Black And I'm Proud," which would go on to hit No. 10.

Say It Live And Loud marks the 30th anniversary of that release, presenting Brown at his blistering best. Included are such hits as "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag," "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "I Got The Feelin'," and "Cold Sweat." Liner notes are written in part by Public Enemy's Chuck D.
