Compay Segundo
Segundo was a classic singer of Cuban son who enjoyed a renaissance in the 1990s, thanks to Ry Cooder and Warner Music.
"Compay" is slang for "compadre"; "Segundo" refers to the fact that he usually sang the bass part of a song in duets.
Segundo was born Francisco Repilado in Siboney, Cuba in 1907.
He was known for cracking jokes, even at the ripe old age of ninety, about how he'd like to sire a few more children.
