Cecil Taylor

The avant-garde jazz pianist Cecil Taylor was born on March 25, 1929 in New York, USA. He quickly became a respected and noted improviser and worked with his own outfits from the mid-fifties onwards. However, his improvisations and compositions were often considered too advanced – or too free, depending on who wrote the critics – by the music world, even after the rise of free jazz. Full-length albums by Cecil Taylor included “In Transition” (1955), “New York City R&B” (1961), and the live recording “Spots, Circles and Fantasy” (1988).
