Sly and Robbie provided the rhythmic foundation for a second wave reggae band who've found decades of international success. When Sly and Robbie became Black Uhuru's backing band, reggae was forever changed. Ervin Spencer, Rudolph Dennis and Derrick Simpson are the original members of this prolific Roots Reggae outfit. In the late '70s and the '80s, the group was lead vocalist Michael Rose and backed by rhythm heavyweights Sly and Robbie. Black Uhuru is named after the Swahili word meaning "freedom."
