Bix Beiderbecke

The jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke was born in 1903 in Davenport, USA and fell in love with jazz at an early age. Legend has it that his parents felt this was frivolous, so they sent him to the military academy. Luckily, he was stationed close to Chicago, and when Beiderbecke was expelled for missing classes in the early twenties he found a job as a cornetist with the Wolverines, although he couldn’t read music. Beiderbecke went on to become one of the greatest jazz musicians of his day, but died in 1930 due to an unbridled alcohol abuse that had already made his last years unproductive.
