A songwriter, producer and a brilliant pianist, Toussaint is a seminal figure in 1960s New Orleans pop and soul. He wrote Lee Dorsey's "Working in the Coalmine," Dr. John's "Right Place, Wrong Time" and Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights." Amazingly, Toussaint also wrote "Lady Marmalade," "Mother-In-Law" (Ernie K-Doe) and the theme song for "The Dating Game." In the wake of Katrina (in which Toussaint was among those who lost their homes), he's been getting some much deserved exposu He got his start at 17, filling in for Fats Domino at a recording session while Domino was on tour.
