Abyssinians
Roots reggae pioneers the Abyssinians (Bernard Collins and brothers Donald and Linford Manning) formed in Jamaica in 1969.
The group's minor-key harmonies were strongly influenced by Donald and Linford's brother's band, Carlton & His Shoes.
Of the three founder members of the Abyssinians, only Donald Manning was originally Rastafarian.
Producer Coxsone Dodd shelved "Satta Massa Gana," had the band buy it back, and then covered it when it hit big.
The Abyssinians were featured in 1970s reggae flicks "Roots Rock Reggae" and "Rockers."
